COLLEGE STUDENTS’ HANGOVERS HAVE MET THEIR MATCH

Care Package Company Box-O-Box’s DETOX-O-BOX Gets College Kids Back In The Books

As college students nationwide have adopted a “work hard, play harder” philosophy, with staggering rates of weekend alcohol consumption at dusk-to-dawn parties, the ever-present “how to cure a hangover” quandary has been solved. The fun and original college care package company Box-O-Box has created the Detox-O-Box, the first care package specifically designed as an exhaustive hangover remedy kit.

The 28-year-old entrepreneurial duo behind Box-O-Box (www.boxobox.com), Michael Hauke and Justin Zucker, remember those drunken college parties and woozy following mornings all too well. “When we were in college, we were always scrambling to find the next best hangover remedy, from special teas to greasy burritos. We wondered, ‘how can we serve the needs of college students on this end too?’”

It was at their weekly roundtables with parents and students where Hauke and Zucker heard a parent voice a request for a hangover care package. And the students enthusiastically agreed, so the Detox-O-Box was born!

What’s in the Detox Box? Hangover remedy drinks from “Boozer,” a Barf Bag, organic ginger mints to help reduce nausea, greasy potato chips to help slow down the absorption of alcohol, salty organic pretzels for sodium deficiency, a door sign that says “Stay Away,” stomach-settling tea and much more.

"Parents always call us, and with slight sarcasm, say that their students have been up late-night studying and need a little love," says Michael Hauke, Founder.  "We understand that they don't want to condone drinking, but understand the reality of college life".

The Detox-O-Box has not only been requested by a number of students, but has been embraced by the parents who have been long-time customers.  "Parents don't always like to admit it, but casual drinking is an everyday part of college life for a large percentage of students," said Justin Zucker, Co-Founder. “This is just another way we are trying to help parents connect with their students on a slightly less traditional level.”

Parents can send their kids a Box-O-Box for other "occasions" as well. Box-O-Box (http://www.boxobox.com/) offers over twenty-four themed hip, unique and fun care packages -- birthdays, cool dorm stuff, exam time, pamper yourself, feel better, movie night, all nighters, and more. What makes the boxes stand out is that each one is jammed not only with memorable munchies, cool gadgets and just plain-fun stuff, but with humor, TLC and a bit-o-attitude. And, of course, a message from home.

And the go-to care-package company is proving all the rage on campus. “We’re seeing demand grow because Box-O-Box provides parents and family members with a way to connect with their kids in a language they both understand,” Hauke notes. “We like to say that our boxes are made with the same tender loving care your momma used to give

you -- though without the guilt trips.”

Colleges and universities from Maine to Hawaii are jumping on the brash Box-O-Box bandwagon, making the company their official care package provider. News of Box-O-Box has spread with viral quickness and the company is fielding a slew of requests from schools across the country for brochures to distribute as part of orientation programs and housing information.

The go-to care-package company is proving all the rage on campus, with fraternities and sororities, student government associations, sports clubs and social groups partnering with Box-O-Box on fund-raising efforts. And, phone-a-thons that send a Box-O-Box to a student, in response to their parents’ college donation, are proving enormously effective in both generating profits for worthy causes as well as buzz. The company is also working with schools to develop specifically designed private label boxes.

As the hands-down authorities in college care packages, Hauke and Zucker have clearly done their homework in searching out unique products that aren’t simply plucked off the shelf. “Wherever possible,” says Zucker, “we choose all natural, organic food from socially and environmentally responsible companies. We’re always on the lookout for small companies that we can partner with and grow together.”

Box-O-Box is gaining a foothold beyond the campus too. People are catching on to sending a Box-O-Love to a sweetie on Valentine’s Day or a Movie Night Box for a Netflix extravaganza. Corporations are asking for customized packages for their special events.

This isn’t the first entrepreneurial endeavor for this talented pair. Hauke and Zucker, who have a background in resource economics, started Dirty Business Laundry Delivery Service as part of a class exercise and later sold the company. “This time we’re out to change the world, one box at a time,” Hauke concludes.
